Testimonials

October 5, 2026

We've been thinking about this -- generally speaking if we don't ask for a testimonial, clients don't generally write one for us. And we know it can take a lot of effort to think of what to write. How can future clients know what past clients have experienced with us without them? One way to help out is to give folks some guidance on writing testimonials, which we did for website clients in the past. This article contains ideas and hints for coaching clients (whether individual or group clients) on how to give a helpful testimonial.

Do note we're not looking for fan-gushing or accolades. We are both flattered & uncomfortable when given praise, humbled when criticized, and our main goal in asking clients for testimonials is "How can we help people decide whether our services or materials are suitable for them?"

General Guidance

Your total testimonial can be succinct. 1-2 short paragraphs is fine. We don't want to limit the size of testimonials, and at the same time a long story may be a bit much for people to read before deciding whether our services are for them.

Feel free to be critical as well. If something didn't work out well for y'all, if you have regrets, etc. let folks know.

You may want to be specific about what service(s) y'all participated in i.e. "We got the sample coaching session…" or "We've been having 1:1 coaching sessions with Crisses for…" or "We have participated in the Missions group coaching for a month…".

Prompts

We'd say pick 1 prompt or question (below) to flesh out in your answer. Here's some questions y'all might answer:

  • What effect has coaching had on your internal community?
  • What effect has coaching had on your quality of life?
  • What emotional benefits have y'all gotten from coaching?
  • Is there anything specific that you've accomplished that you can credit to coaching?
  • Is there a "before & after" snapshot that you can give? What was it like before vs after having coaching?
  • How do y'all value our sessions? (is it worth your time, money, effort, energy…)
  • Do you have comments or criticisms about the quality of our sessions?

Criticism

Please feel free to say what's not working for y'all, or what did not work for y'all. We're already aware we're not perfect, and that not everyone has the same needs.

Consider giving this information in a way that helps someone else decide whether that's a dealbreaker for them. Include whether the issue was brought up and handled, and whether it worked out for y'all afterwards, etc.

If y'all have criticism you do not wish to be part of your testimonial, feel free to share it with us privately and we'll try to address your concerns.

Attribution/Giving Credit

We will need to know who gives the testimonial to verify that y'all actually worked with us. However please feel free to figure out a different/separate name you'd like your testimonial credited to. It can be a pseudonym, your system name, initials, or it can be anonymous. A pseudonym is probably best overall for both being an "identifiable person" to the potential customer reading the testimonial, and for helping out with your own anonymity.

Example Fake Testimonial

Below is an example testimonial to illustrate what we think may be helpful for someone considering writing a testimonial -- but it's totally made up. There are real testimonials elsewhere on the site of varying lengths & details -- all amazing and we are grateful!

We attended the Missions group coaching sessions for 4 months before our work schedule conflicted with the sessions. The sessions were well organized around topics that we felt were relevant, but sometimes the information was a little over our heads. We found the between-session assignments helpful so that we could come to the next session with background information to help us understand that week's topic, and a couple times we returned to the recording after the session so that other headmates could catch up. That was also very helpful when we missed a session attending a work interview -- we were able to catch up on what happened during that week's live session.

Many of the group assignments between sessions were other articles, recordings and sections of the Plurality Resource course curriculums that were further expanded on in live sessions. We really appreciated front-loading our logical brain with information and knowledge -- and recognize it's up to us to put it into action. We've already had some times where the group information became practical applications in our life, and doing the suggested exercises has been invaluable. We also really appreciated being able to ask questions for clarity during sessions. If our work schedule changes, we'd want to join back up again. --The Joker Club
