Content for Product Pages

There are different directions you can take with a Products page and that will be determined by the scope of your offerings.

If you have multiple broad categories, list the categories here, with clear labels and links. If your categories require explanations, photos, or other hints to describe the text labels, use them, but make it obvious with as little effort as possible to the website visitor which link they're looking for. You may need to have categories and subcategories listed here:

  • Dog Supplies
    • Dog Food
    • Leashes & collars
    • Clothing
    • Treats
  • Cat Supplies
    • Cat Medicines
    • Cat Food

If I had put "Cat Supplies" it would not have been as clear that we carry medicines.

What product detail content should you put on a web page?

If you have very few items in your product line, and they are all in the same broad category, your Category page can be a listing of the actual products. On any product detail page, this is what you need to consider:

  • features
  • benefits
  • specifics (size, weight, colors available)
  • price
  • ordering information
  • wholesale information
  • payment button
  • testimonials
  • product comparison (chart?)
  • shipping/delivery information
